Reverse Audio Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 September 2026

Your recordings never leave your phone. Reverse Audio records and reverses audio entirely on your device. We have no servers holding your voice, no account for you to create, and no way to listen to anything you record. What we do collect is anonymous usage data about which features get used, and confirmation from the app stores when someone subscribes. We never sell your data.

1. About this policy

1.1 This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal data when you use the Reverse Audio mobile application (the "App"). Please read it carefully before using the App.

1.2 The App is operated by Sleeping Giant Media Limited, trading as Side Quest Digital, a company incorporated in England and Wales with company number 06705616 and registered office at Top Floor, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2QY ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller in respect of your personal data.

1.3 We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office ("ICO") under registration number ZA214557. You can verify our registration at ico.org.uk.

1.4 If you have any questions about this Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us at privacy@sidequestdigital.co.uk.

2. Your recordings stay on your device

2.1 This is the most important thing to understand about the App, so it comes first.

2.2 Audio you record in the App is captured, reversed, scored, and stored entirely on your own device. It is not uploaded to us. It is not sent to any third party for processing. We operate no server that receives, stores, or processes your audio, and we have no technical means of listening to anything you record.

2.3 Recordings, challenge attempts, and your scores are saved to the App's own storage area on your device. They remain there until you delete them in the App or uninstall the App, at which point they are removed with it.

2.4 The similarity score in the Reverse Singing Challenge is calculated on your device by comparing your attempt to a challenge clip bundled inside the App. No comparison happens anywhere else, and no attempt is transmitted in order to be scored.

2.5 Because your recordings never reach us, they are not personal data that we hold, and requests to access or delete them cannot be actioned by us. You already hold the only copy, and you can delete it yourself at any time from within the App.

2.6 The one exception is entirely in your hands: if you choose to export or share a recording, the App hands the file to your device's standard sharing sheet and you select where it goes. Anything you send to another app or service from that point is governed by that service's own privacy policy, not this one. We are not party to the transfer and receive no copy.

3. Permissions the App asks for

3.1 Microphone. The App requests access to your microphone, because recording audio is what it does. The permission is used for nothing else. It is requested at the point you first try to record, not on launch, and if you decline it the App tells you what is missing rather than failing silently.

3.2 The App does not request access to your contacts, your photo library, your camera, your location, your calendar, your health data, or your files.

3.3 You can withdraw the microphone permission at any time in your device settings. The App's recording features will stop working, but nothing else is affected and no data is lost.

4. Data we collect

4.1 Setting aside your recordings, which as explained in clause 2 we never receive, we collect a small amount of data in two ways: automatically as you use the App, and from the app stores when you subscribe.

Data we collect automatically

4.2.1 Usage data: anonymous events describing which features are used and in what order, so we can see what works and what does not. Examples of the events we record are: a recording being made, a challenge being started, a step of a challenge being completed, an attempt being recorded and scored, a voice effect being selected, the Pro screen being viewed, and a purchase being completed. These events record that something happened, not the content of what you recorded.

4.2.2 Device and technical data: device type, operating system version, App version, and a randomly generated identifier used to tell one installation apart from another for analytics purposes. This identifier is not your name, your email address, or any account.

4.2.3 Diagnostic data: crash reports and error logs, used to find and fix defects.

4.2.4 There is no account and no sign-in in the App. We do not collect your name, email address, date of birth, phone number, or any other identifier that would let us work out who you are from the analytics data described above.

Data we receive from the app stores

4.3.1 Subscription data: where you take out a Pro subscription, RevenueCat provides us with confirmation of your subscription status, renewals, cancellations, and the country in which the purchase was made, following a transaction made through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

4.3.2 We do not receive or store payment card details. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own terms.

Data you give us directly

4.4.1 Support data: if you contact us through the support form on our website or by email, we hold your email address and whatever you write to us, for as long as it takes to deal with your query and for a period afterwards as set out in clause 8.

5. How and why we use your data

5.1 We use personal data for the purposes below, relying on the legal bases stated. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you have the right to object, see clause 9.

Purpose Data used Legal basis
Providing the App's core functionality: recording, reversing, and scoring audio on your device No personal data reaches us for this purpose. Processing happens on your device Performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) UK GDPR)

Finding and fixing crashes and defects Diagnostic data, device and technical data Our legitimate interests in providing a working product (Art. 6(1)(f))
Providing and managing Pro subscriptions, and honouring entitlements across reinstalls Subscription data Performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b))
Maintaining transaction and accounting records Subscription data Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c))
Responding to support requests and resolving complaints Support data Our legitimate interests in providing customer support (Art. 6(1)(f))
Complying with our legal and regulatory obligations Any data necessary to comply with applicable law Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c))

6. How we share your data

6.1 We do not sell your personal data to any third party.

6.2 We share personal data with the following categories of recipient, each of whom processes data only as necessary for the stated purpose and under obligations of confidentiality and data protection compliance:

6.3 No advertising networks receive data from this App. The App carries no advertising and contains no advertising SDK.

6.4 We may disclose personal data to law enforcement or regulatory authorities where required to do so by law, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our legal rights or the safety of our users. We could not disclose your recordings even if compelled to, because we do not hold them.

6.5 If we sell or transfer all or part of our business, personal data may be transferred to the acquirer as part of that transaction. We will notify you in advance where we are required to do so by law.

7. International transfers

7.1 Some of our service providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States, notably RevenueCat. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, as required by UK GDPR.

7.2 Transfers to the United States are made in reliance on the UK-US Data Bridge, where the relevant recipient is certified under it, or otherwise on the basis of the International Data Transfer Agreement ("IDTA") or standard contractual clauses approved by the ICO.

7.3 If you would like further information about the safeguards applicable to a specific transfer, please contact us at privacy@sidequestdigital.co.uk.

8. How long we keep your data

8.1 We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law:

8.2 When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it securely.

9. Your rights

9.1 Under UK GDPR you have the rights listed below in relation to personal data we hold about you. You can exercise any of them by contacting us at privacy@sidequestdigital.co.uk. We will respond within one month, though we may extend this by a further two months for complex or numerous requests.

9.2 A practical note on exercising these rights. Because the App has no accounts, the analytics data we hold is tied to a random installation identifier rather than to you as a named person. That is deliberate and it protects your privacy, but it means we may be unable to connect a request to a specific set of records without further information from you. Under Article 11 UK GDPR we are not required to obtain additional data purely in order to identify you. If you want us to try, contact us and we will explain what would be needed.

9.3 Deleting everything, immediately and without asking us: delete your recordings in the App, or uninstall the App. That removes every recording, attempt and score, because your device is the only place they exist.

9.4 Right to complain: if you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would welcome the opportunity to address your concerns directly first, and ask that you contact us in the first instance.

10. Tracking technologies

10.1 The App uses an analytics SDK to log the usage events described in clause 4.2.1, tied to a random installation identifier. It does not use cookies, as it is a native mobile application rather than a website.

10.2 The App does not currently track you across other companies' apps or websites, and carries no advertising identifier used for that purpose. If that changes, iOS will ask for your permission first through the App Tracking Transparency prompt, and you are free to decline. Declining does not affect the App's functionality in any way.

10.3 You can limit certain kinds of tracking through your device settings, for example by resetting your advertising identifier or limiting ad tracking on iOS or Android.

10.4 If we introduce additional forms of tracking in future, we will update this Policy and notify you of material changes before they take effect.

11. Children

11.1 The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@sidequestdigital.co.uk and we will delete it promptly.

11.2 If you are aged 13 to 17, we encourage you to read this Policy with a parent or guardian before using the App.

11.3 Parents should be aware that the App records audio, and that a child could share a recording out of the App to another service using their device's sharing sheet. That sharing is under the child's control on their own device, not something we can see or prevent.

12. Security

12.1 We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against accidental loss, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include encryption of data in transit, access controls on our analytics and subscription tooling, and regular reviews.

12.2 Your recordings are protected primarily by the fact that they never leave your device. Their security therefore depends on the security of your own device: we recommend using a device passcode and keeping your operating system up to date.

12.3 No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we take all reasonable steps, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12.4 In the event of a personal data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the ICO as required by law.

13. Changes to this policy

13.1 We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our data processing practices or applicable law. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice within the App or on this page before the changes take effect.

13.2 The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when this Policy was most recently revised. Continued use of the App following notification of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy. If you do not accept it, you must stop using the App.
